Soul has served for Canada as a member of the Canadian Armed Forces. He served 8 years of his life as a cook in the Canadian Navy. (Op Apollo Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea 2002) and (Op Unison Gulf of Mexico 2005).
Soon after a life changing/career changing decision to release from the forces,(2009) Soul began some serious soul searching; using music as a paradigm for personal growth.
Soul Howe has always been an artist, winning numerous sketching competitions in and around his region as a youth; including meeting one Rosa Parks in the process of receiving an acclaim.
Soul Howe’s musical career basically began when he felt his writting longed for an accompanyment. Soul then began to take the art of expression very seriously. While doing so he had written a poem in an effort to cope and put into perspective life/death,separation,displacement. During such time “Onward” (2011) was written as a tribute spiritual; to commend the accomplishments of his community, community members and his very own family alike. “The feedback and love I began to feel allowed me comfort in vulnerabilty; and there love is my courage.”
I entered a singer/songwritter competition held on Kijiji and hosted by one Devon Parsons of Lucasville. Soul won easily by a 55% margin and was then awarded professional video services.
“Syncronosity is indeed the capital city of heaven.”
At this time Soul would no longer whisper song, no more hiding behind closed doors and in closets. His ill notes and his least desired mistakes then began to serve him well. He began to realize the importance of an ill fretted note; in that it could serve him very well, while simply defining him and his craft; raw natural feeling allowed him to decipher from what felt right, from what felts wrong. “It is important to remember that one kinda loses feeling of ones self while being conditioned; for war.”
“Becoming a student of music has allowed me further growth as a person; from the person I was and on this day in this light I am much closer to the being that I believe was intended above. I say and feel this not just because I no longer study war; but because I have learned compassion and ultimately I have learned to forgive myself. Music has offered me salvation via expression of my own experience in this life.”
Less than 13 months after Soul released “Onward”, “Album Soulcoustic (902)” 2012, was released via Soundcloud. Soul Howe immediately nestled under the mentoring wing of one James (Homegrown DA Producer) Mcquaid @ Musicwerkz. “James applies the right pressure on me at the right times; I am sure he is tryna make a diamond out of me. I came to him merely coal.”
Soul Howe can also be found featured on a 2013 global album out of Accra,Ghana (with thousands of downloads) this project known as Mantse Bixy’s ProjectSHYNE Volume 1. Canada’s lone rep. w/ “Craving For Grace” (2012) “Album Soulcoustic (902)”
