Autumn Twilights

Click Here for Autumn Twilights on Facebook
Autumn Twilights is a 6-member hip-hop and rock-infused band that hails from Los Angeles.  The group was originally co-founded in 2008 by Phil Galanty, (vocalist, producer, songwriter) and Scott Shryack (lead guitarist, songwriter), when the two were seeking random roommates to live with in Long Beach, California.  In the end, Phil and Scott not only found someone to share an apartment with--they also found a fulfilling musical partnership.  They immediately began writing and performing together, and also decided that their ultimate vision would include putting a full band together.  A few years later, the two were introduced to the very talented Danny DeLeon (drummer), who had already established himself in the ranks of the Southern California music community.  Phil and Scott were sure that Danny would be a perfect addition to the band, and in beginning to work with one another as a team of three, they knew they had indeed made the perfect choice. Next, in January of 2011, the stars continued to align for Autumn Twilights. Phil ran into Nathan Smith, a friend he knew back in Washington D.C. as a kid.  Now a seasoned bass player performing across LA, Nathan, would prove to be another perfect match for the band.  Along with Nathan, the band also picked up Mike Connell, an incredibly talented lyricist/producer, who would prove to be a powerful addition to not only the sound of Autumn Twilights, but to the on-stage presence they were reaching for.  Last but not least, the band was looking to fill one final spot--one for a female vocalist.  They ended up reaching out to Arielle Worona, an extremely talented up-and-coming singer/songwriter in the Los Angeles music scene with a heavy background in musical theater. The new group clicked instantly as songwriting and musical soul mates.  As a whole, they were greatly influenced by the likes of The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, The Gorillaz, as well as motown, hip-hop, punk and electronic music.

From there, Autumn Twilights took their music in a bold, innovative, new direction: they added a great deal of positivity and melody to their tunes, thickened the arrangements, and always ensured they used intricate lyrics.  Today, the band continues to throw itself on the cutting edge of sound.  Autumn Twilights aspire to be a breath of fresh air in music, while also creating a passionate and thought-provoking songwriting spirit that people have always been drawn to.
Autumn Twilight’s music is firmly entrenched in hip-hop, but it constantly tries to break musical barriers by combining itself with all different musical forms. As a result, Autumn Twilights truly transcend musical genre categorization and have a unique sound that is all their own.  Galanty explains that this is intentional, both lyrically and musically: "[Our] record has no classification. We didn't go into this with hip-hop or rock on our minds," says Galanty. "We were just thinking of good songs, good music. We didn't want to say or make anything typical, like, 'our style is this, or my rhymes are like that.’ We just wanted to make classic tracks that could stand the test of time.”

The Pittsburgh music scene has granted the airwaves a host of talent throughout the years. With a promise to capture the heart of Pittsburgh, August Ruins has emerged from the Steel City underground armed with motivation, a message, and a melody.  Founded in May of 2009 August Ruins has found success with an explosive sound, combining the speed and melody of California punk with the technicality of modern metal. From the beginning the band has found the ability to compromise, collaborate and respect each others own musical backgrounds. August Ruins released their debut self-titled demo in December of 2009, and in August of 2010 released their first EP "The Ghost and the Gasoline".  Fist in the air punk rock, with blistering guitar solos and pounding double bass...

Ashes In The Sky

Ashes In The Sky (click for Facebook site)

It all started after Anthony Javino met Micheal Halliday in 2008. After about a year of being in that band, Anthony quit due to musical differences. As months passed by Anthony began to give up on being a musician after wasting his time and money. However, Anthony decided to form his own band which he named "Screams of Karnage" with his twin brother Patrick Javino on drums and the bassist from Anthony's old band Travis Sloboda. After several auditions and no luck, Travis left the band. Down to only Anthony and Pat, things looked dim again. Then out of the blue, their little brother James Javino had got a bass for his birthday and was welcomed to play in the band. The 3 would jam in their room whenever they could, but were still without a singer. And then a miracle happened. Anthony was shown a recording by his girlfriend at the time of a friend of hers named Andrew Nicolae, who was a singer and guitarist. On March 18th 2010, they were introduced and became quick friends as they both loved Metallica and both played guitar. They jammed for a couple of hours in Andrew's basement and had a great time, so before leaving Anthony asked Andrew, despite being in another band, to sing for his band. Andrew immediately accepted. From that day the band was formed with a full line up and soon had their first practice. The band had been together for 6 months before their first gig, and the day before, they came up with their name, "Ashes In The Sky". After several shows and a few months, things weren't working with Jimmy on bass, so the band decided to part ways with him and started their search for a new bass player. Soon after, they befriended Anthony Corbo after playing a show with his band All the In-Between, for which he sings and plays guitar, but also plays bass. After they mentioned they were searching for a new bass player, Corbo immediately decided to audition. On January 1st, 2011, the band found their bass player and backing vocalist in Anthony Corbo. Now the band works hard with songs they currently have and new ones being made all the time to produce a kickass demo cd, find a label and bring this band to the masses!!!

Jesus Christ Superstar

Jesus Christ Superstar is a musical by Andrew Lloyd Webber, with lyrics by Tim Rice. The musical started off as a rock opera concept recording before its first staging on Broadway in 1971. The musical is based very loosely on the Gospels' account of the last week of Jesus' life, beginning with the preparation for the arrival of Jesus and his disciples in Jerusalem, and ending with the crucifixion. It highlights political and interpersonal struggles between Judas Iscariot and Jesus. The resurrection is not included. It therefore largely follows the form of a traditional passion play.

The work's depiction offers a free interpretation of the psychology of Jesus and the other characters. A large part of the plot focuses on the character of Judas, who is depicted as a tragic figure who is dissatisfied with the direction in which Jesus steers his disciples. Twentieth-century attitudes and sensibilities as well as contemporary slang pervade the lyrics, and ironic allusions to modern life are scattered throughout the depiction of political events. Stage and film productions accordingly feature many intentional anachronisms.

UNIR1 Radio will be playing the entire rock opera on Sunday August 7th and again on August 14th at Noon for those who may miss it on the 7th.
